UAB WBB Begins Texas Roadtrip at UTEP

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team continues Conference USA play beginning Dec. 29 at UTEP and Dec. 31 at UTSA.
 

UAB LATELY                                                                             

UAB (8-2, 0-1 C-USA) finished its nonconference season with a 70-56 victory over Alcorn State. The Blazers have a 2-1 road record this season.
 
UTEP LATELY

UTEP (8-2, 1-0 C-USA) won its Conference USA opener over LA Tech 62-54 on Dec. 18. The Miners have a perfect 4-0 mark at home this season.

 
UAB AND UTEP HISTORY  

The series began in 1990 with a UAB 61-41 victory. The matchup went on hiatus for 16 years, resuming in 2006. Overall, the Blazers lead the series 15-11 and 12-8 in Conference USA play. The teams have met five times in the C-USA Championship with the Miners holding a 3-2 edge. UTEP leads the series at Haskins Center 6-5.

LAST TIME AGAINST UTEP                           

UAB swept the season series from UTEP for the third time in four tries in its 65-49 victory on Feb. 26, 2022.

Margaret Whitley had her best shooting performance of the season, going 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range, totaling 19 points. Emily Klaczek was 7-of-14 for 18 points and Weathersby pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds for the Blazers.

UAB and UTEP have nine common opponents this season, all Conference USA teams.

Despite UAB’s setback on Dec. 19, they are off to the second-best 10-game start in program history.

UAB TO THE AAC                                                

American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC and compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The move will be official on July 1, 2023.
