RALEIGH –The UAB men’s soccer team fell on the road, 2-0, at NC State on Saturday night.
“We played well tonight and we have to give NC State their credit,” said head coach Jeff Kinney. “They took their chances well and scored two good goals. I was proud of the way we played throughout the match and I felt like we produced some quality chances. We need to do the little things really well throughout the entire match in order to beat good opponents. Tonight, we didn’t quite do enough.”
Grayson Dupont opened the match with a shot within the first minute to set the tone for the Blazers. Shane De Leon followed with a shot of his own in the sixth minute of the match. De Leon attempted a shot on goal for UAB (1-7) that was saved by NC State (1-6-1) goalkeeper Leon Krapf in the eighth minute. The Wolfpack answered in the 13thminute with the first goal of the evening by Ivy Brisma.
Less than a minute later, De Leon fired another shot on goal that was saved once again. NC State countered that with a goal by Kuda Muskwe in the 25thminute.
UAB’s defense slowed the Wolfpack in the second half. NC State recorded only one shot after halftime while the Blazers recorded two.
UAB will be back at BBVA Field on Feb. 28 for its home spring opener against Mercer at 5 p.m.
