Sharks Track Fourth in Season-Opening Meet at Ansin

MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern track and field squads opened up competition for the 2021 season on Saturday at the Ansin Sports Complex, finishing fourth in both men’s and women’s competition at the South Florida Challenge #1 Meet.

FIELD EVENTS
The Sharks produced three event winners in the throwing events, highlighted by a clear personal best toss in the men’s javelin by Spencer Ochko, who topped his previous best by over 10 feet with a 105-2 (32.06m) event-winner. Nadiv Galindo also logged a second-place finish in the even at 88-0 (26.83m). Ochko also finished fourth in the discus at 119-5 (36.40m) and sixth in the shot put at 33-1.75 (10.10m).
 
Christina Adams also captured the victory in the javelin on the women’s side, just three inches shy of her collegiate best at 98-0 (29.88m). Meanwhile, Carly Rothert finished second with a huge personal-best distance of 93-1 (28.39m), adding six inches to her previous distance.
 
Rounding out the trio of throwing victors, Jaylynne Thomas added a full 13¾ inches to her career best in the shot put, topping the field with a 37-3.25 (11.36m) toss.
 
Leading the jumps for the Sharks, Abdrrazek Azlag earned third in the men’s long jump with a career-long 21-11 (6.68m) leap. Justin Jackson jumped 43-4.5 (13.22m) in the men’s triple jump for fourth. On the women’s side, Eileen Platten reached 15-4.75 (4.69m) in the long jump for fourth place.
 
RUNNING EVENTS
Making her collegiate debut for the Sharks, Hollywood, Fla. rookie Ivanova Yanes topped the running events for NSU with a third-place finish in the 1500m in a time of 4:59.38.
  
UP NEXT
The Sharks will return to Ansin for their second of four meets at the facility this season, coming back to competition on March 9 in the South Florida Challenge Meet #2.
