UAB Hosts First Place North Texas / Aaron Johnson Jersey Retirement

BIRMINGHAM – UAB great Aaron Johnson will have his jersey retired at halftime of Saturday’s game against North Texas. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

UAB AND NORTH TEXAS    
The series began in 1997 when North Texas came to Birmingham. The teams did not meet again until 2014  after North Texas joined Conference USA.  

ABOUT NORTH TEXAS    
North Texas (15-9, 9-2 C-USA) is all alone at the top of Conference USA. The Mean Green have a one game lead over LA Tech and WKU. North Texas is second in the league in scoring with 63.3 points per game.  Umoja Gibson is eighth in C-USA with 14.4 ppg and Zachary Simmons is third with a 62.8 shooting percentage. Javion Hamlet is second in the league with 4.8 assists per game. DJ Draper leads C-USA with a 57.4 3-point shooting percentage. The Mean Green are 5-5 on the road overall, 4-2 in C-USA road contests.

LAST TIME AGAINST NORTH TEXAS    
UAB outscored North Texas 13-5 in the final 6:03 of the game to rally for a statement road win over the first place Mean Green, 52-49, on Jan. 26, 2019 at The Super Pit.
