Softball’s Late Offense Falls Short to Wichita State

WICHITA, KS, April 2, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team (22-18, 3-3 AAC) scored two late runs in the 3-2 loss to Wichita State (30-7, 5-1 AAC) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) hit a solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning to end the Bulls scoring drought. It was hers second home run of her career and her first from the left side of the plate.

The only run of the day that wasn’t scored by a home run came off a double from Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) that allowed Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.) to cross the plate.

Gabriella Nori (Weston) pitched her fourth complete game of the season. She retired eight batters, the second highest of the season for the lefty. She has a season total of 55 strike outs, enough for second on the team.

Garcia-Soto finished with two hits for her third multi-hit game of her career.
