Sharks have Three Named SSC Players of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced its Player of the Week honors for the week ending on 1/23. Nova Southeastern had three student-athletes earn recognition, as Luca AlessandriniCelina Marquez, and McKenah Peters were selected for the awards.  

Alessandrini and Marquez earned their third SSC Swimmer of the Week honors of the season, while Peters was honored for the first-time in her Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball career.  

Alessandrini was incredible in a pair of dual meets for NSU. The freshman was victorious in the 1000-free (9:30.13) and 500-free (4:32.17) against Florida Southern in the final Sunshine State Conference dual of the regular season. Alessandrini followed that performance with two more individual wins against Keiser in the 1000-free (9:43.27) and the 500-free (4:41.59). This is the third time the freshman has been selected as the SSC Swimmer of the Week, also earning recognition on 11/15 and 1/10. 

Marquez was also recognized for the third time of the 2021-22 season. She earned victories in the 200-free (1:53.56), 200-back (2:00.87), and added wins in the 200-medley and 400-free relay on the weekend.  

Peters earns her first Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week nomination, after leading the Sharks to SSC victories over Saint Leo and No. 18 Tampa. Peters averaged 20.5 points-per-game, 4.5 rebounds, and shot 53% from beyond the arc.
