SB: South Florida Run-Rules Rhode Island

TAMPA, March 3, 2023 – Camille Ortiz-Martinez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) hit her first career home run in the University of South Florida softball team’s 8-0 win over the Rhode Island Rams on Friday night in five innings.   

Hallie Bryant (Trenton) and Tieley Vaughn (Wesley Chapel) got on base by a Rams error and a hit-by-pitch. With two on, Ortiz-Martinez stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball out of park for her first career home run.  

In the third inning, Bryant hit her first triple of the season and came home on a single from Allana Consolazio (Fort Myers).  

USF had no intentions of slowing down. Julia Mrochko (Drums, Pa.), Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa), and Consolazio hit three straight singles to start the fourth inning. Mrochko scored on Consolazio’s hit. Alexa Galligani’s (White Plains, N.Y.) triple brought two more runs home.  

Vaughn brought in the last run with a single to right field.  

Jaden Martinez (Tallahassee) earned her third start of the season. The left-hander pitched four innings and struck out one. Morgan Grubb (Bartow) pitched the last inning. 

NOTABLES 

  • The Bulls stretch their win streak to four games.  
  • This is the first time this season that the Bulls have hit two triples in one game.  
  • This is the first time this season South Florida has run-ruled a team.  
  • USF pitching did not allow a single walk in the game.  
  • Galligani led with two hits.  
  • Galligani and Ortiz-Martinez had three RBI.
