SB: South Florida Drops Series Finale in Orlando

ORLANDO, April 23, 2023 – The University of South Florida (27-22, 6-6 ACC)fell to the Central Florida Knights (30-19, 9-3 AAC) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, 2-0. 

Sunday’s final conference meeting between South Florida and UCF started as a pitcher’s duel. Both Friday starters, Gabriella Nori (Weston) and Sarah Willis, earned the start for the finale.    

Through six and a half innings, both teams were scoreless. Both pitchers had a combined six strikeouts.  

In the sixth inning the Bulls had the bases loaded after a single from Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) and back-to-back walks from Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) and Alexa Galligani (White Plains, N.Y.).  

UCF scored two runs in the sixth inning on a throwing error by Garcia-Soto. The Bulls had runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but nothing came of it.  

Vivian Ponn closed out the game in the circle for the Bulls. She struck out one. Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel), Trivelpiece, and Bailee Leistl (Valrico) each got a hit. 

Up Next 

South Florida will close out their regular season home stand by welcoming the Memphis Tigers this Friday to Sunday. On Saturday, the Bulls will honor the 2023 senior class.
