Pair of Gator Gymnasts Claim SEC Weekly Honors

Lazzari claims her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor. She is the second Gator to receive SEC Freshman of the Week, as Gabrielle Gallentine was recognized for Week 4.

Thomas claims her fourth SEC Gymnast of the Week honor of 2021 and this extends her SEC all-time leading total to 15. This is the fifth such honor for the Gators in 2021 as senior Megan Skaggs earned it for the final week of January.

Ellie Lazzari – SEC Freshman of the Week:

  *   Set collegiate best of 9.975 to share Feb. 26 beam title with junior teammate Leah Clapper. Third beam win of 2021
  *   9.90 set collegiate best on floor
  *   Led off bars lineup with a 9.825
  *   Helped Florida set school record of 49.70 on beam. Every beam mark this season is 9.85 or better.
  *   Current national rankings -beam (No. 3 – 9.950)

Trinity Thomas – SEC Gymnast of the Week:

  *   Won all-around versus Auburn with SEC’s top total of the weekend (39.75) – fourth all-around title of 2021 and 18th of career. All-around total led league last weekend and second highest among the nation’s competitors
  *   Pair of 10.0 (bars, floor). Second Gator and first since Alex McMurtry (2018 vs Oklahoma) with two 10.0 in a single meet.
  *   10.0 on bars was nation’s first for 2021 and her second overall
  *   10.0 on floor is second consecutive and third overall
  *   Seven 10.0s for career (two on bars & beam; three floor)
  *   Current national rankings – all-around (No. 1 – 39.788), vault (No. T3 – 9.944), bars (No. 1 – 9.975), beam (No. T4 – 9.944), floor (No. 1 – 9.975)

UP NEXT FOR THE GATORS:
Florida travels to No. 6 Alabama for the regular-season finale on March 5. UF is looking for a win for its second consecutive undefeated SEC regular-season title. An Alabama win would give the Tide a share of the 2021 SEC regular-season title with Florida.
