Owls Play Shutout Ball on Tuesday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For just the third time in 2023, Florida Atlantic University softball hit the road playing two games. On Tuesday, FAU faced Bethune-Cookman and picked up two wins, including a combined no hitter featuring starter Gabby SaccoKelsey Endress and Summer Clark.

FAU, 31-10, won the first game 7-0 on just four hits. The Owls won the second game 6-0 and erupted for 10 hits. FAU will continue their road swing with a Wednesday doubleheader versus UNF, beginning at 3 p.m.

GAME ONE

Gabby Sacco started the game and tossed three scoreless no-hit softball innings of work to pick up the win. Endress kept it rolling for FAU with an inning of work and Summer Clark pitched the final three to earn a save.

While the pitchers were keeping the Wildcats off the base paths, the Owls’ offense scored seven runs on just four hits. FAU scored two in the first without a hit by drawing three walks, stealing three bases, taking advantage of two wild pitches, a passed ball and a sac fly. FAU would add two more in the second inning, one in the fourth inning and two in the sixth.

NOTES/NOTABLE

  • The no-hitter was the 28th in the program’s history and was the second that Sacco has been a part of in 2023. She is the 11th FAU pitcher to record multiple no hitters in their FAU career
  • Riley Ennis belted her third homer of 2023 which ties Olivia Peterson for the team’s lead
  • Ennis also had a double and missed the cycle by the allusive triple
  • Abby Ota added a single to Ennis’ three hits for the team’s total of four

GAME TWO

Game two was much more of the same. Lynn Gardner started in the circle for the Owls and tossed four shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. The final two innings were thrown by Ainsley Lambert, who was the fifth FAU pitcher to see action on the day and the fifth to throw shutout ball. She struck out two and walked two to earn the save.

Five FAU hitters recorded a hit in the nightcap. Each of the 10 hits were singles. Ota had the hot bat with a 3-for-4 performance.
