No. 25 USF Will Visit Wichita State in Final Series, Play for Regular Season Championship

TAMPA, May 1, 2019 – USF will take five straight sweeps into its final series of the regular season as it vies for its second straight regular season championship. The Bulls need just one win to guarantee a possible share of The American title, and two wins to secure it outright.

Last weekend the Bulls swept Memphis in their last home performances, winning 2-0, 5-3 and 2-1, to improve to 16-2 in conference play with its fifth straight sweep. Tulsa is closest behind the Bulls in The American standings, two games behind with a 14-4 record.

The Bulls checked into the Top 25 for the first time this season, ranking 25th in the USA Softball Poll. USF can also be found in the Top 25 in statistical rankings, holding the 15th spot, first in The American, in ERA at 1.84. The Bulls also lead the league with 16 shutouts, the 12th-best mark in the nation.

Offensive Power

  • Senior Macy Cook provided the power in the Bulls wins over Memphis, batting .700 over the weekend with three multi-hit games and three RBI
  • Cook was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the second time this season and second straight week

Six-Time Pitcher of the Week Corrick

  • Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) was named pitcher of the week for the sixth time this season and the third week in a row
  • Corrick went 2-0 over the weekend in two complete games, 14 innings
  • She limited batters to a .128 average, six hits and 12 strikeouts
  • She has won six consecutive starts and 22 games this season
  • Corrick currently holds a .84 ERA
  • Corrick leads The American and ranks in the Top 25 nationally in five categories
    • #3 in ERA (.84)
    • #10 in shutouts (9)
    • #12 in hits allowed per seven innings (3.89)
    • #12 in strikeouts (221)
    • #16 in victories (22)

Scouting the Opponent

Wichita State (29-23, 10-8)

  • Wichita State leads the all-time series, 4-3. Last season, USF won the series with two wins to close the regular season and clinch the Bulls’ first American Athletic Conference regular season championship.
  • The Shockers have three series wins in conference play including a sweep against Memphis, and wins against ECU and UCF
  • Wichita State’s series losses come from Houston, UConn and Tulsa
  • Madison Perrigan leads the Shockers’ offense batting .324 with 48 hits including 14 doubles, two triples and nine homeruns. The junior has batted in 39 runs and tallied 93 total bases.
  • Caitlin Bingham has the most wins on the pitching staff with a 13-9 record and 117.2 innings. Bingham has pitched eight complete games and held batters to a .218 average with 88 strikeouts.
  • Erin McDonald has also put up double-digit wins for the Shockers with a 12-11 record, four shutouts, four saves and 12 complete games. McDonald has limited batters to a .236 average with 103 strikeouts and just 60 walks.
