No. 18 Sandy Owls Split on Opening Day of Beach Burrow Bash

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 18 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (15-14, 2-3 CUSA) opened up play in the Beach Burrow Bash on Saturday, splitting against FGCU (13-17, 2-3 ASUN), 4-1, and Tulane (20-8, 1-2 CUSA), 2-3.
NO. 18 FLORIDA ATLANTIC 4 – FGCU 1
FGCU scored first on court three. Brooklyn Goedhart and Logan Mignerey dropped a two-set battle against FGCU’s Kaitlyn Luebbers and Nicole De Oliveira, 17-21, 23-25. The Sandy Owls tied things up at 1-1 at the 1s as Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova defeated the Eagles’ top pair of Shelby Beisner and Trinity Rosales, 22-24, 21-15, 17-15. Kate McLaughlin and Kendall Mignerey extended the Sandy Owls lead to 2-1, taking a three-set battle on court five against FGCU’s Sydney Majick and Skylar English, 21-23, 22-20, 15-11. Mikayla Law-Heese and Courtney Moon clinched the match for Florida Atlantic, taking a three-setter on court four against the Eagles’ Jacqueline Carpenter and Mia Thompson, 23-25, 21-12, 15-13. Sloane Woolwine and Marketa Svozilova closed out the Sandy Owls’ 4-1 victory, winning another three-setter against FGCU’s Emma Soncrant and Kacie Johnson, 16-21, 21-19, 15-10.Scores

Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova put Florida Atlantic on the boad first, earning a dominant straight-set sweep over Tulane’s Sara Hall and Molly Trodd, 21-15, 21-13. Tulane brought things even at 1-1 at the 5s as Kate McLaughlin and Kendall Mignerey fell in a two-setter against the Green Wave’s Amelia Mullen and McKenzie Cutler, 21-15, 21-15. The Sandy Owls recaptured the lead on court three as Mikayla Law-Heese and Courtney Moon earned Florida Atlantic’s second straight-set sweep of the match against Tulane’s Lara Torruella and Tawny Ensign, 21-17, 21-16. The Green Wave tied up the match at 2-2 on court two after Sloane Woolwine and Marketa Svozilova fell in two against Tulane’s Trinity Jackson and Savka Popovic, 21-17, 21-18. Tulane clinched the 3-2 win on court four after Brooklyn Goedhart and Logan Mignerey dropped a two-set battle against Tulane’s Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign, 21-16, 21-14.Scores
