NFC Players of the Week – Week 9

BEARS QB JUSTIN FIELDS, LIONS S KERBY JOSEPH &
BUCCANEERS P JAKE CAMARDA NAMED NFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 9

Quarterback JUSTIN FIELDS of the Chicago Bears, safety KERBY JOSEPH of the Detroit Lions and punter JAKE CAMARDA of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played in Week 9 (November 3, 6-7).

OFFENSE: QB JUSTIN FIELDS, CHICAGO BEARS

  • Fields totaled four touchdowns (career-high three passing, one rushing) and had 178 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in Week 9, the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a regular-season game since at least 1940. He also became the first player in NFL history with at least three touchdown passes, 150 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in a single game.
  • This is the first-career Offensive Player of the Week award for Fields. He becomes the ninth Bears quarterback to earn the honor and the first since Mitchell Trubisky (Week 10, 2018).
  • Fields is the fourth former Buckeye quarterback to be named Offensive Player of the Week, joining Kent Graham (Week 5, 1996 and Week 15, 1998), Bobby Hoying (Week 14, 1997) and Mike Tomczak (Week 4, 1989).
     

DEFENSE: S KERBY JOSEPH, DETROIT LIONS

  • Joseph recorded 10 tackles, three passes defensed and two interceptions in the Lions’ 15-9 win over Green Bay. He is one of two players to record 10 tackles and two interceptions in a single game this season.   
  • This is Joseph’s first-career Defensive Player of the Week award, and he is the first-ever Lions rookie to earn the honor.
  • He is the third defensive back from of the University of Illinois to win the award, joining Vontae Davis (Week 18, 2002) and Keith Taylor (Week 7, 1989).

SPECIAL TEAMS: P JAKE CAMARDA, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

  • Camarda averaged 59.5 yards over six punts (54.2 net yards) and placed four inside the 20-yard line with a long of 74 yards in the Buccaneers’ Week 9 win. He had the longest punt, the most punts placed inside the 20-yard line and highest yards-per-punt average among all punters in Week 9. 
     
  • This is Camarda’s first Special Teams Player of the Week award and is the first Tampa Bay rookie punter to ever earn the honor.
  • He is the first-ever punter from the University of Georgia to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
