MIAMI MARLINS MAKE EIGHT SELECTIONS ON DAY 2 OF 2022 MLB FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT

All eight selections on Day 2 were pitchers, featuring Gatorade Missouri Baseball Player of the Year RHP Karson Milbrandt from Liberty Senior High School (Missouri)

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today made eight selections on Day 2 of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft. Of Miami’s 10 draftees thus far, the lone position player drafted was the club’s first-round selection (6th overall) – Jacob Berry. The other nine picks have been pitchers (seven collegiate). The Club’s first selection on Day 2 was RHP Karson Milbrandt from Liberty Senior High School in Missouri in the third round (85th overall).

Milbrandt, 18, earned Gatorade Missouri Baseball Player of the Year honors in 2022, going 7-1 with a 1.66 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched across his senior season. He is the state’s No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2022 as rated by the Prep Baseball Report and a 2021 First Team All-State selection.

Other selections on Day 2 include RHP Jared Poland from the University of Louisville, RHP Kyle Crigger from Louisiana Tech University, and LHP Dale Stanavich from Rutgers University, who were chosen in Rounds 6-8, respectively. Poland received 2022 All-ACC Second Team honors, going 5-5 with 3.46 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 83.1 innings during his senior season with the Cardinals. Crigger’s teammate LHP Cade Gibson was selected by Miami in the 10th round.

Crigger earned First Team All-Conference USA, C-USA All-Tournament Team and ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region honors in 2022. As the Louisiana Tech’s closer, he posted a 2.35 ERA with 10 saves, and 79 strikeouts in 69.0 innings. and set a single-season school record with 37 appearances.

Stanavich earned All-Big Ten First Team, ABCA/Rawlings East All-Region First Team, All-ECAC Team, and NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watchlist honors as a redshirt junior. He went 1-3 with 2.10 ERA and 10 saves in 22 relief appearances with Rutgers, striking out 51 and walking just nine.

On Day 1 of the 2022 MLB Draft, the Marlins selected INF Jacob Berry with the sixth overall selection and RHP Jacob Miller with the 46th overall selection. Berry, a switch hitter who played infield and outfield for Louisiana State University for the 2022 season, received Collegiate Baseball Second-Team All-America honors following a campaign where he hit .370 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI and a 1.094 OPS in 53 games, with just 22 strikeouts. Miller, a starting pitcher who was ranked the 29th top draft prospect by ESPN, was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Ohio Baseball Player of the Year.
