Heading into this new year, The Miami Dolphins are looking for a major upgrade on their defensive line. With the loses of both stars Robert Quinn and Cameron Wake to free agency last year. The Dolphins are in serious need of a pass rusher. The Houston Texans on the other hand, are looking on the opposite side of the ball. As they seek to protect their young signal caller in, Deshaun Watson. As it turns out, both teams can resolve their issues with one simple trade. Houston has reportedly offered the Dolphins, 3x Pro Bowler and Second-team All-Pro, Jadeveon Clowney in exchange for offensive lineman, Laremy Tunsil.
According to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald, “the Texans hope to improve their offensive line by trading away Clowney, which is why they have their sites set on Tunsil.”
Tunsil, 25, is a former first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and is considered one the cornerstones of the Dolphins franchise. The thought of him being traded would cause players in the locker room to revolt. According to a source, “The backlash would be amazing,” Guys would legit revolt.”
The only downside to this trade besides a potential revolt in a locker room is the players contract situations. According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, “Clowney filed a grievance in an effort to get the tag switched from linebacker, which would give him $15.97 million in 2019 if he signs, to defensive end.” “The latter would allow him to make $17.13 million if whichever team trades for him authorizes tagging him at the position.” “Miami has $26 million in cap space and could do so. However, it is still looking for more if it is going to part with Tunsil.”Teams also interested in Clowney’s services are, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Seattle Seahawks, the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets.
