• Saturday marked the first time Virginia Tech was held scoreless in a first half this season. It was the first time the Hurricanes held an FBS team held an opponent scoreless in a half since the
second half of Miami’s win at Duke on 11/27/21. It was the first time the Hurricanes held an FBS opponent scoreless in a first half since a shutout at Duke on 12/5/20.
OFFENSIVE TEAM & INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• The Hurricanes totaled 302 yards of offense, including 241 passing yards, in the first half Saturday against Virginia Tech. Miami outgained Virginia Tech 302-106.
• Making the 15th start of his career, QB Tyler Van Dyke finished the half with 241 yards on 18-for-28 passing. He totaled two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
• RB Jaylan Knighton had seven carries for a team-high 24 rush yards. QB Jacurri Brown was second on the Hurricanes with 22 first half rushing yards, including a long rush of 19 yards.
• WR Colbie Young made the first start of his career and matched or eclipsed his season totals for catches (5), yards (77) and touchdowns (1). He entered Saturday’s game against the Hokies
with three career catches for 43 career yards and one career touchdown. Young’s touchdown came on a 17-yard reception with 5:28 left in the first half.
• WR Frank Ladson, Jr. caught the first touchdown pass of his Miami career to open the scoring, a 5-yard grab in the back of the end zone.
• WR Brashard Smith tied a career high for a single game when he caught five passes in the first half. He also caught five passes last week against North Carolina and once in 2021 vs. CCSU.
• TE Will Mallory had 62 first-half receiving yards on three catches.
• RG Logan Sagapolu and C Jonathan Denis made the first starts of their Miami careers Saturday afternoon.
DEFENSIVE TEAM & INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• The Hurricanes defense allowed just 106 yards in the first half Saturday. It marked the first time the Hokies were held scoreless in a first half this year.
• The Hokies offense averaged just 3.8 yards per play in the first half.
• LB Corey Flagg, Jr., and DL Akheem Meisdor were each credited with a first-half sack on Saturday.
• DL Jahfari Harvey led all Hurricanes with four first-half tackles.
• DB Avantae Williams was credited with a first-half forced fumble that he recovered himself on the first drive of the game.
SPECIAL TEAMS TEAM & INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• K Andy Borregales connected on a 28-yard field goal in the first half Saturday – his lone attempt.
• P Lou Hedley averaged 42.5 yards on his two punts Saturday, landing both inside the Hokies 20-yard line. He had a long punt of 46 yards.
