Men’s Basketball – #1 Sharks Close out Regular Season with Win over Saint Leo

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The top-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Basketball team completed their 2023-24 regular season with a 98-78 victory on Saturday, March 2nd, at the Rick Case Arena. The Sharks ended the regular season with 12 consecutive wins, their longest winning streak of the campaign. Prior to the game, NSU Athletics honored Isaiah FullerMike MooreTrey DoomesGianFranco Grafals, and Shane Hunter with a senior day ceremony.

How it Happened

First Half – Nova Southeastern’s defense made an impact early in the game, forcing five turnovers by the Lions in the first five minutes. Following a steal by Shane HunterTrey Doomes finished a fast-break layup, putting the score at 14-7 in favor of the Sharks. GianFranco Grafals scored five consecutive points for NSU, extending the Sharks advantage to 19-10. Ryan Walsh followed by hitting a pair of three-pointers, pushing the lead to 27-10. Saint Leo cut the Nova Southeastern lead to 41-31 with less than five minutes remaining in the half, but the Sharks went into the break leading 52-40. 

Second Half – Saint Leo began the second half by scoring four unanswered points, cutting their deficit to single-digits, but back-to-back buckets by Hunter gave NSU a 56-44 lead. The Lions hit two consecutive three pointers, putting the score at 66-59. Nova Southeastern responded with an 11-0 run, with Isaiah Fuller capping the run with two straight buckets, putting the score at 77-59. Ryan Davis knocked down a pair of three-pointers, extending Nova Southeastern’s advantage to 87-64. The Sharks finished off their 12th straight win, defeating Saint Leo 98-78.
