Lynn’s Jeanjean Selected Women’s Tennis ITA National Senior Player of the Year

Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2018-19 NCAA Division II national award winners at tonight’s banquet prior to the start of the NCAA National Championships, with Lynn University’s Leolia Jeanjean being named the women’s tennis National Senior Player of the Year.

Jeanjean becomes just the third player in the storied history of Lynn women’s tennis to capture this prestigious award, joining Katerina Koldova in 1999-00 (NCAA Division II) and Petra Stankova in 1994-95 (NAIA). It is also the first National Player of the Year award for Lynn University since women’s golf’s Jessica Bradley in 2014-15 (WGCA Division II).

Last week, Jeanjean was named the ITA South Region Player of the Year, qualifying her for the national accolade.

The graduate-student transfer has been racking up awards all season, being named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year to go along with All-SSC First Team accolades in singles and doubles. She was also tabbed the SSC Player of the Week a league-best four times.

Jeanjean rolled through the competition in 2019, currently holding undefeated records in both singles (20-0) and doubles (25-0).

In singles, she hasn’t lost a set all season and has taken down eight nationally-ranked opponents. Jeanjean has been nationally ranked in singles all spring, currently slotted at No. 8 in the country.

Jeanjean has been even more impressive in doubles action. She is the first player in program history to win 24+ doubles matches in a season without a loss.

The Blue and White open up the first round of the 2019 NCAA National Championships on Wednesday, May 22, at 12 p.m. vs. Grand Valley State.
