WGCA All-America

Coral Springs, Fla. – The resurgence of the Lynn University women’s golf team continued on Monday with the announcement of three student-athletes as All-Americans by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).  Helen Kreuzer earned First Team recognition, Kristina Ortiz gathered Second Team laurels and Matilda Wahren received Honorable Mention accolades.

The Fighting Knights’ three selections ties for the third-most in program history and the most since four honorees in 2013-14.  Lynn’s women’s golf program now boasts 34 All-America awards.

Kreuzer broke out in her junior campaign, ranking No. 6 in the nation among Division II golfers, winning three tournaments and earning First Team All-Sunshine State Conference plaudits.  The Bensheim, Germany, product posted the second-lowest stroke average (73.69) in program history to go along with nine top-10 finishes.  Additionally, her three victories, one at the NCAA South Regional, makes her one of just three golfers in program history to medal in three tournaments in a single season.

Ortiz ends out her career in magnificent fashion.  She shot a 74.82 stroke average with six top-10 finishes, both personal-bests, en route to WGCA All-South Region and All-SSC Second Team honors for the first time.  The Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, native also picked up CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition for the second consecutive season.

Wahren rounded out the Fighting Knights triple threat.  A junior out of Hasselby, Sweden, she dropped a stroke off her average from a year ago to shoot a 75.52 with four top-10 finishes, including three top-five’s over her last five tournaments.  Wahren was also the runner-up at the SSC Championship, earning All-Tournament recognition.

Lynn ended the 2018-19 season with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championship, the program’s first national title appearance since 2015.  The squad loses a key member in Ortiz but returns both Kreuzer and Wahren.
