Lynn’s Fernandez Named SSC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. – Normally making waves as a defender, Lynn University men’s soccer player Rodrigo Fernandez made a big splash this week after being named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday.

Fernandez scored the first three goals of his career to help the Fighting Knights defeat Davenport 3-2 in overtime on Sunday morning.  The senior out of Mexico City, Mexico, scored twice directly off free kicks, but it was his header off a free kick in the 94th minute that sealed the victory for the Blue and White.

The hat trick is the first recorded by a Lynn player since 2017.

Playing defensive midfield and center back for much of the game against Florida Memorial, he helped the Fighting Knights limit the Lions to just five shots, four on goal.

Lynn is back on the pitch Friday, Sep. 13, when it hosts Alabama Huntsville at 6 p.m.  Fans can watch the action live on the Lynn Sports Network.
