Lynn Women’s Tennis dominating at the Sailfish Invite

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –It will be a busy championship Sunday at the Sailfish Invite for Lynn University Women’s Tennis. They will have four players in individual finals and their No. 1 doubles team will also be playing for the title following a very successful Day 2 of the tournament.

WOMEN’S DOUBLES DRAW:

#1 Doubles Flight

  • Ulyana Grib and Valeriay Pogrebnyak advanced to the championship match with a win over Jil Engelmann and Xiyao Wang of Barry, 8-6. They will face Daniela Farfan and Julie Razafindranaly also of Barry in the finals.
  • The second No. 1 team Eliska Petrackova and Eleonora Liga will play for fifth place after beating Lisa Khamassi and Sarah Schaerer of Keiser, 8-6.

#2 Doubles Flight

  • Federica Mordegan and Giorgia Pigato just missed out on a spot in the title match with a loss to Natasia Jedrychowski and Kristyna Jurkova of Saint Leo 9-8.

#3 Doubles Flight

  • Federica Pezzana and Anastacia Parkin did not play on Day 2 but will play again on Sunday.

SINGLES DRAW:

#1 Singles Flight

  • It will be double duty for Grib who will also be playing in the singles finals after a pair of wins. She beat Rebecca Keijzerwaard of Palm Beach Atlantic on Day 1 by withdraw and took care of Engelmann on Day 2, 6-1, 6-2. She will face Anais Gabriel of Keiser on Sunday.

#2 Singles Flight

  • Perackiova will play for third place after dropping her match to Razafindranaly on Saturday. She beat Nina Furmaniak of Saint Leo on Friday 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

#3 Singles Flight

  • Liga will also be playing for a title on Sunday following her win over Jedrychowski on Saturday 6-2, 6-3. She beat Anais Ruyssen of Keiser on Friday, 7-6, 4-6, 11-9.
  • It will be an all Lynn final as Liga will take on teammate Mordegan who beat Clara Versier of Barry by withdraw. She opened the tourney with a win over Anna Marija Bukina of Saint Leo 6-3, 7-6.

#4 Singles Flight

  • Pezzana will play for fifth place after losing on Day 1 to Melanie Dveksler of Keiser, but she rebounded with a victory on Saturday over Sandra Swiderski of Saint Leo, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.

#5 Singles Flight

  • Not to be outdone is Parkin who is the last Lynn player who will play for a title on Sunday after beating Alexandra Yeardly 6-3, 6-2 on Friday. She will face Kortney McHale of Saint Leo.
