Lynn Women’s Soccer Leaps Over Lions in 1-0 Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Anna Shawley jumped to head home a header in the box to push Lynn University’s women’s soccer team to a pivotal Sunshine State Conference (SSC) win on the road at Saint Leo, extending the team’s point streak to three-straight matches on Wednesday night.

STATS OF THE GAME:·       Crystal Ayn Hagberg found Anna Shawley on a corner kick five minutes before the halftime whistle to swing the momentum in Lynn’s favor at the break.·       Both teams fired off 10 shots, but a compact Blue and White defense allowed just four shots on goal. Lynn totaled eight shots on target, several of which tested Lion goalkeeper Julia Ortiz.·       Johanna Nilsson and Anniina Sankoh both fired two shots on frame, playing at the top of the Fighting Knight attack.·       Devan Malcolm made four stops in 90:00 to earn the win.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:·       This is Lynn’s first win over Saint Leo since Oct. 20, 2012.·       Shawley’s goal is her second of the season. She has now scored twice in her last four matches after scoring once in her first 57 contests.·       The shutout for Malcolm is her second complete-game shutout of the season, going the distance on Oct. 5 vs. Fla. Southern in a 0-0 draw.·       Crystal Ayn Hagberg picked up her fifth assist, tied with Ariella Kaplan for the team-lead.·       This is the first time since a three-game SSC stretch from Sept. 23-30, 2017 that the Blue and White have earned points in three-straight conference matches.
