#3 Lynn 4, Saint Leo 1
BOCA RATON, Fla. – A big 4-1 victory over Saint Leo coupled with a Florida Tech loss has given Lynn University’s third-ranked men’s soccer team the 2019 Sunshine State Conference regular season title. This is the 43 SSC championship in Lynn history, the 15th for the men’s soccer program and first since 2016.

STATS OF THE GAME:
· Nearly identical to the second from Lynn’s previous match, Lukas Ostermann put Lynn ahead 1-0 5:05 into the game with a goal off a give-and-go with Levin Sandmann.
· Saint Leo scored the equalizer in the 35th minute off a Mauro Diaz bicycle kick.
· Kaspar Kabaar made his debut at Bobby Campbell stadium and did not disappoint, notching the first of his two goals in the 51st minute to put the Blue and White ahead 2-1. Ostermann was credited with the assist after his shot inside the area was stopped by Wessel Berenschot.
· Saint Leo pressed and Kabaar took away the Lions momentum when he juked a defender just outside the 18-yard box and sent a shot into the left side-netting for the 3-1 lead.
· Lukas Hombach put the match out of reach in the 89th minute with a tap-in from an Alexandre Horveno cross from the left side.
· Lynn outshot Saint Leo 9-5 but the Lions held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
· Berenschot failed to make a save while Konstantin Fuhry turned away three shots, including a diving stop on a penalty kick by Federico Tellechea.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
· This is the 10th regular season title for the men’s soccer program. They have won previously in 2016, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2008, 2007, 2003, 1999 and 1998. The program has five SSC Championship titles as well: 2016, 2014, 2008, 2004 and 2003.
· Lynn will now hold the top-seed in the SSC Championship slated to begin on Monday, Nov. 11. The Fighting Knights will receive a first-round bye and play on Thursday, Nov. 14.
· Kabaar made his season-debut at Embry-Riddle but this was his first home match at Bobby Campbell Stadium.
· Ostermann shares the lead in goals with Hombach at seven but the senior striker surpassed Sandamann with 17 points.
· Ostermann scored 5:04 into the match against Embry-Riddle.
· Horveno’s assist was his league-leading eighth of the year. He is tied for third in the nation.
· The NCAA announced its first official Super Regional rankings with Lynn first in Super Region-2. The top-10 teams will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
· Ostermann has recorded at least three points in three consecutive games and four of his last five matches.
· Sandmann has points in each of his last six consecutive games and Hombach in four straight.
· Fuhry has stopped two penalty kicks this season.
· Lynn is averaging three goals over its last six matches.
· Lynn has won four consecutive matches against Saint Leo while this is the most goals scored against Saint Leo since 2007.
· The Fighting Knights honored their 2019 senior class in a pregame ceremony: Joao Delgado, Rodrigo Fernandez, Lukas Ostermann, Levin Sandmann and Filippo Serdino.
