Boca Raton, Fla. – Lynn University softball head coach Jill Moore announced the addition of Marisa Runyon to her staff for the upcoming 2019-20 season.  Runyon joins the Fighting Knights after completing her masters at Coastal Carolina and will work extensively on hitting and offense while assisting with the infield and recruiting

“I am thrilled to announce Marisa’s addition to the Lynn softball family,” said Moore.  “She brings so much experience to our program from her time as a student-athlete at the University of Alabama.  From our first conversation I knew she would embrace our values of Spirit, Service and Strength and I am excited to see her passion of the game come alive on the field with our student-athletes.”

While studying at Coastal Carolina, Runyon went back to her roots to coach at her alma mater, Carolina Forest High School.   She served as the assistant coach in 2018 and was elevated to head coach for the 2019 season where she coached a pair of All-Region selections. In her high school playing days she was twice named to the Class 4A All-State Team and to the North-South All-Star Game and batted .703 with 11 home runs and 16 doubles while striking out just three times her senior season.

Runyon was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Alabama (2014-17), where she helped the Tide to three NCAA Division I Women’s College World Series appearances (2014-16) and one SEC regular season title (2014).  As a sophomore she hit .327 with a team-high 20 home runs and 83 runs batted in to earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third Team All-America and Second Team All-SEC honors.  Her 83 RBIs were second in the nation and set a new Alabama single-season record.
