Lynn Men's Lacrosse Tackles Rival Rollins for First SSC Triumph

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s lacrosse team picked up its first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season on Saturday as the Fighting Knights defeated rival Rollins College, 10-8. The victory is sweet revenge for the Fighting Knights after the Tars beat Lynn by one goal in each of the last two seasons.

STATS OF THE GAME:

· The Tars scored the first two goals of the game before Lynn went on a 10-2 run to close out the first three quarters of play. The fourth quarter was all Rollins however as the Tars netted four goals to Lynn’s none.

· Freshman Caleb Wells logged his second hat trick this season, finding the back of the net three times on five shot attempts.

· Xander Cosenza boasted a team-high four points behind two goals and two assists.

· Mikey Urso and Conor Vaughan each added a pair of goals, with Vaughan tacking on an assist.

· Nick McCabe tallied three points on a goal and two helpers.

· Jared Chaloux (2) and Conrad Rhein (1) combined for the team’s final three assists.

· Dryden Brous had a somewhat quiet day compared to his lofty standards as the junior went 16-of-22 at the faceoff X with a game-high 10 ground balls.

· Junior netminder Collin McClelland was lights out in between the pipes, recording 13 saves along with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

· Evan P. Kalish had a strong outing defensively for the second consecutive game, logging four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Greg Morissette chipped in three GBs and two CTs.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

· Rollins defeated Lynn 8-7 last season and 12-11 in double overtime during the 2017 campaign.

· The Fighting Knights’ 10 goals are their lowest in a win so far this season.

· Kalish has seven caused turnovers in the last two games combined. He had four over the course of the first seven games this season.

· McClelland also had 13 saves against the Tars last season.

· Despite the victory, Lynn committed a season-high 27 turnovers.

· Both teams are receiving votes in the USILA National Rankings.
