Local high school baseball player selected high in the draft

Andrew Painter, a top pitcher for Calvary Christian was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies as the 13th pick of the Major League Baseball draft on Sunday night. He was the third high school pitcher selected in the draft. He is a right handed pitcher.

Stoneman Douglas player signs with the Diamondbacks

Gavin Conticello, an infielder for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team was selected by the Arizona Diamondback in the Major League Draft.  He was picked in the eight round and was the 228th pick. He considers it the fulfillment of a longtime dream.  Conticello has wanted to play professional baseball since he was a young child and spent years developing his skill. He could also play college baseball if he is unable to reach a satisfactory contract. He has signed with the University of South Florida.
