Jaguars Postgame Notes — Week 1 vs. Indianapolis (9-13-20)

The Jaguars’ 27-20 victory over the Colts marked their sixth consecutive home victory against Indianapolis, their third win on Kickoff Weekend in the last four seasons and their first Week 1 home victory since 2011.

With today’s victory, Head Coach Doug Marrone improved to 5-3 against the Indianapolis Colts. Marrone is now 4-2 on Kickoff Weekend as the head coach of the Jaguars (2017-20) and Bills (2013-14). 

Marrone will be available to local media tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. on Microsoft Teams.

MINSHEW MANIA: Second-year QB Gardner Minshew completed 19 of 20 passes (95.0 comp. pct.) for 173 yards and three TDs for a passer rating of 142.3 in today’s victory. Minshew became the fourth player in NFL history to throw at least three TD passes and complete at least 95.0 percent of his passes in a single game (min. 20 pass attempts), joining QBs Drew BreesPhilip Rivers and Marcus Mariota. He is the first player to ever throw at least three TD passes and complete at least 95.0 percent of his passes on Kickoff Weekend. In his last two games against the Colts, including Week 17 of the 2019 season, Minshew has completed 46 of 59 passes (78.0 comp. pct.) for 468 yards, six TDs and one INT for a passer rating of 126.6. Minshew is now 3-2 in divisional matchups over the last two seasons and has completed 116 of 169 passes (68.6 comp. pct.) for 1,194 yards (238.8 passing yards per game), nine TDs and three INTs against divisional opponents. For his career, Minshew has completed 304 of 490 passes (62.0 comp. pct.) for 3,444 yards, 24 TDs and six INTs for a passer rating of 94.3.

Minshew completed passes to 11 different receivers in the team’s Week 1 victory. WR Keelan Cole Sr. led the Jaguars with five receptions and hauled in one of Minshew’s three TD tosses. WR DJ Chark Jr. and rookie WR Laviska Shenault Jr. also caught TD passes from Minshew. Chark has now caught three TDs in his last three games against Indianapolis. Minshew joins QBs Mark Brunell (Sept. 9, 2001) and David Garrard (Sept. 12, 2010) as the only players in franchise history to throw for at least three TDs on Kickoff Weekend. He has posted a passer rating of at least 95.0 in four of five career games against divisional opponents.

ROOKIE ROBINSON: Undrafted rookie RB James Robinson started for the Jaguars and rushed 16 times for 62 yards (3.9 rush avg.), as well as adding 28 yards on a reception. Robinson became the first undrafted rookie in NFL history to start on Kickoff Weekend since 1990, and his 90 scrimmage yards were the sixth-most ever by an undrafted rookie on Kickoff Weekend.

BIG DAY FOR CJ: Making his NFL debut, first-round rookie CB CJ Henderson, who was selected with the ninth overall selection the 2020 NFL draft, posted five tackles, three passes defensed and one INT. Henderson became the third player in NFL history to post at least five tackles, three passes defensed and an INT in their NFL debut, joining CBs Marcus Peters (sept. 13, 2015) and Denzel Ward (Sept. 9, 2018). Henderson became the fifth Jaguars rookie in franchise history to register an INT on Kickoff Weekend and the first since CB Derek Cox in 2009.

JACK ATTACK: Defensive captain and LB Myles Jack finished with 11 tackles, including 1.0 sack. Jack has now posted at least five tackles in nine consecutive games.

JONES LEADS THE WAY: Making his Jaguars debut, S Josh Jones led the team with 12 tackles. This marked Jones’ third career game with double-digit tackles and his first since Dec. 23, 2018.

LAMBO-MATIC: Josh Lambo converted both of his field goal attempts in today’s victory, the first from 50 yards in the third quarter and a 46-yarder with 2:54 remaining in the game. Lambo has now made 73 of 77 field goal attempts with the Jaguars since he signed with the team on Oct. 17, 2017. Overall, his 94.8 field goal percentage is the highest in franchise history and the highest by any player in the NFL since 2017 (min. 10 FGA). Lambo has now made all 44 FG attempts at home since signing with the Jaguars in 2017, including all 39 tries at TIAA Bank Field. Lambo is the only kicker in the NFL since 2017 to connect on 100 percent of their kicks in home games (min. 10 attempts).
