JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars announced today that Senior Personnel Executive Tom Gamble andDirector of Player Assessment Ryan Stamper have joined the team’s personnel staff. Gamble will assist General Manager Trent Baalke in all areas of player personnel, while Stamper will be involved in a variety of areas, including player evaluation, assessment, and culture development.
“Tom and Ryan are key additions to the personnel department,” said Baalke. “Tom brings 30 years of NFL experience in player personnel, and, given our extensive history together, his counsel, expertise, and wealth of relationships in the business will help us in every aspect of player acquisition and retention.
“As a native of Jacksonville, Ryan knows this area, and his track record of working with young men and preparing them for life on and off the field is impressive and well documented. He will play an important role in helping us bridge the gap between player acquisition, player development and player retention. The energy and expertise that both Tom and Ryan bring to the organization will serve us well as we strive to build a winner, both on and off the field, in Jacksonville.”
Gamble, who enters his 30th season in the NFL, most recently was the assistant general manager of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes in 2020 after serving as a senior advisor to the head coach and player personnel at the University of Michigan from 2017-19. Prior to his stint in Ann Arbor, Gamble was the assistant general manager for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 after serving as a senior personnel executive in 2015. His return to the Bay Area followed his time in Philadelphia, where he was the vice president of player personnel for the Eagles from 2013-14.
In 2012, Gamble oversaw both the college and pro personnel efforts for the 49ers while working closely with Baalke. With assistance from Gamble and Baalke, the 49ers shared the NFL lead with nine Pro Bowl selections and advanced to three straight NFC Championship games and Super Bowl XLVII.
Prior to being named director of player personnel, Gamble served as the director of pro personnel for the previous seven seasons in San Francisco. Before his time with the 49ers, he served as a college scout for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998-2004. He also worked as a defensive assistant with the New York Jets for two seasons and had scouting roles with Carolina and Baltimore. Gamble earned his first scouting role in the NFL with Philadelphia in 1988.
Overall, Gamble has helped produce 12 playoff teams, including five with Indianapolis, five with Philadelphia and two with San Francisco.
Stamper, a Jacksonville native who attended First Coast High School, spent the past nine seasons of his career overseeing player development at Ohio State, where he was promoted to assistant athletic director for player development in 2018. Stamper built the “Real Life Wednesday” program while also helping players gain internships, job shadowing opportunities and other community service initiatives. He worked under current Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer for seven seasons and Ryan Day for the last two years. In his nine seasons with the Buckeyes, the team made four College Football Playoff appearances.
As a linebacker Stamper played for Meyer at the University of Florida, where he was a two-time captain and two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. The All-SEC honoree was a member of the 2006 and 2008 national championship teams. He won the team’s Forrest K. “Fergie” Ferguson Award as a senior, which goes to the senior who displays outstanding leadership, character and courage. After graduation, Stamper worked for the Titusville (Fla.) Police Department before moving to Columbus.
