Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp: Durham rolls to 8-2 triumph over Jacksonville

Jumbo Shrimp drop eighth game in last 10 tries

DURHAM, N.C. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell 8-2 on Wednesday to the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Durham (42-18) jumped out to an early lead against Jacksonville (31-29) starter Brandon Leibrandt (0-3). Nathan Lukes walked with one out, and two batters later, Kevin Padlo singled. Mike Ford then blasted a three-run home run to give the Bulls the early advantage.

The Bulls put together a big fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Dalton Kelly and Lukes each doubled to begin the frame, with the latter two-bagger scoring a run. After a wild pitch moved Lukes to third, Josh Lowe’s sacrifice fly made it 5-0. After a pop out, Ford singled before Ryan Boldt crushed a two-run bomb to widen the gap to 8-0.

A Lukes sacrifice fly in the fourth scored Tristan Gray, who had doubled to begin the frame.

Jacksonville was finally able to get on the board in the sixth. Bryson Brigman singled to begin the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a line out to right before coming in to score on Isan Díaz’s RBI ground out.

The score was still 8-1 when Justin Twine singled to begin the eighth. An error put runners on the corners and thenDeven Marrero collected an infield single that plated Twine to make it 8-2. Díaz was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Lorenzo Quintana lined into a double play to end the threat.

Durham starter Dietrich Enns (5-1) earned the win by yielding just one hit and one walk in five shutout innings. He struck out eight.
