“We are extremely excited to have Jack join our coaching staff,” said Nesty. “Jack is a former Gator swimmer and will make a positive impact on our program out of the gate. Our current athletes and staff respect him tremendously. We will certainly benefit from his passion and commitment. We are very fortunate to have him with us.”

“I am extremely excited to be given this opportunity to coach at my alma mater,” said Szaranek. “I am absolutely delighted to be working alongside such experienced and successful staff. Having swam here during my college career, and now getting the chance to coach the Gators is a huge honor.”

Szaranek hails from Glenrothes, Scotland and swam multiple events, specializing in the freestyle while at Florida from 2015-20. He also served as a volunteer coach for Florida for one year following the completion of his collegiate career.

During his first year as a volunteer coach for the Gators, he helped the men’s team to their ninth consecutive SEC Title and their best finish at the NCAA Championships since 2017 with a third-place finish.

In his final year competing as a Gator, he qualified for the SEC Championships in the 50 free and in the 100 free. Florida went on to win the meet – the team’s eighth-straight SEC title. In 2020 Szaranek was invited to be a part of a relay at the NCAA Championships that were canceled due to COVID.

Szaranek also boasted a successful academic career during his time at Florida, earning SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades in both 2018 and 2020.

Prior to Florida, Szaranek won the 50 free at the Scottish Team Championships and earned three medals at the British Youth Games. In addition, he holds multiple Scottish relay records and is a member of the Scottish Youth Development Squad.

“We have tremendous talent on the roster and we have exciting times ahead of us,” said Szaranek. “I am looking forward to the years ahead with the University of Florida. Go Gators!”
