BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two things involving a draft happened on Florida Atlantic University’s campus on Thursday.
The first was the annual “Pro Day,” in which nearly 25 scouts were on hand from both the NFL and the CFL to put the recent Owl alumni through their paces. Damian Alloway, Caliph Brice, James Charles, TJ Chase, Zyon Gilbert, Akileis Leroy, John Mitchell, Zaire Mitchell-Paden, Desmond Noel, Brandon Robinson and Willie Wright gathered in the early morning hours to sign in, weigh in and complete their final opportunity for a chance to realize their dreams of becoming a professional football player.
By midmorning, the players moved to the FAU Track & Field Complex where they ran the 40, participated in shuttle drills, as well as passing route either as a receiver or a defender.

“As a coach, you go out and recruit, and it’s our job to help those young men reach their dream goals and aspirations. It’s just part of the dream. You come and get a chance to play in the NFL and to workout today. It’s just awesome to watch these guys. That’s what it’s all about. These guys, I want to say for the most part, they all graduated. They got knocked out, now it’s on to the next part of their lives. It’s great to see these guys. Seeing their growth from the time that I’ve been here is great to see.”
In the day’s second draft-related event, Coach Taggart returned to his office Thursday afternoon where he served as the 2022 Spring Game Commissioner, overseeing this year’s free agent selections by the Red and White team’s head coaches. Earlier in the week Kevin Patrick and Todd Orlando were selected (names were drawn from a hat) as the 2022 Spring Game head coaches. Patrick, the White Team’s coach, and Orlando, the Red Team’s coach, submit names to Taggart as their team’s two free agent selections. The players were called and came to Spring Game headquarters (Taggart’s office) to sign their “contracts.” Following Saturday morning’s practice, the Owls will be selected to represent either the Red or the White team.

The Owls will play their 2022 Spring Game on Saturday, April 9 at 6 p.m. FAU will open the 2022 season on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, versus Charlotte at FAU Stadium.
