Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Fall Historics Kicks-Off Today With Four Days of HSR Action at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

– Dynamic and Diverse Field of More Than 175 Entries Offers Something for Everyone at HSR Fall Historics

– Full Weekend of Competition at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Sets Stage for Sixth Running of HSR Classic Daytona Presented by IMSA 24-Hour Race at Daytona International Speedway First Weekend in November
BRASELTON, Georgia (October 8, 2020) – The Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Fall Historics kicks-off today with the first of four days of on-track HSR action at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta where a dynamic and diverse field of more than 175 entries has turned out for the full weekend of competition, October 8 – 11.

The HSR Fall Historics on the 2.54-mile road course North of Atlanta launches a three-race stretch featuring some of HSR’s most popular events and venues, which are favorites of race fans and competitors alike from around the world.
Following Atlanta is the sixth edition of the HSR Classic Daytona presented IMSA 24-hour race returns to the World Center of Racing November 4 – 8. The HSR Classic Daytona debuted in 2014 as a tribute race to the internationally famous Rolex 24 At Daytona, which has been run on the 3.56-mile road course at the World Center of Racing under a variety of different names for more than half-a-century.
The first order of business, however, is this weekend’s HSR Fall Historics. The Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta event became an instant “must-do” for competitors and race fans alike after HSR paused its 2020 racing schedule more than half a year in support of the global fight against COVID-19.
After returning to the track for the first time in 2020 last month at Road America in a guest appearance with the VSCDA, the Fall Historics is the first traditional and fully HSR sanctioned event of the year.
The competitor response has been outstanding, with the current entry list of more than 175 cars nearly twice the size of last year’s Fall Historics and packed with an incredible array of auto racing machinery of all kinds from the last 60 years.
Among Group 7’s gems is an Italian-built 1976 No. 09 Osella PA8 (pictured at top) that will be driven by returning competitor Justin Frick. While Osella was best known for its Formula 1 racing teams, the manufacturer’s sports prototype race cars also earned some success overseas.

Lola T70s are seen more frequently in HSR than an Osella, but surprisingly, only one such example of the popular British sports prototype is entered in an otherwise stacked Fall Classic field. Also in Group 7, Bill Thumel competes in his 1968 No. 71 Lola T70 Mk IIIb (pictured above).
The packed HSR schedule of Atlanta Fall Historics events includes five feature races and the always exciting WeatherTech Sprint races for all run groups in the standard Saturday/Sunday doubleheader format.
The feature-race lineup includes two B.R.M. Chronographes Enduro Challenges, Friday’s weekend-opening Sasco Sports International/American Challenge sprint and Sunday’s HSR Stoner Car Care Global GT and HSR Classic RS Cup races.

The one-hour B.R.M. Enduros are home to specific and period-matching groups of race cars. Saturday’s Vintage and GT Classic (GTC) race features a variety of cars from the 1960s and ’70s while Sunday’s Historic, Prototype and GT Modern (GTM) B.R.M. race is home to race cars from primarily this century.
Friday’s Sasco Sports race is a production-car showcase of big-bore American iron going head-to-head with top sports cars from Europe and beyond. The flat-out sprint has competitors racing for the overall win in addition to top-three honors in the International, American and Porsche classes.
The popular HSR Stoner Car Care Global GT and HSR Classic RS Cup series share the track in a dual-feature sprint race Sunday afternoon. Global GT showcases contemporary but retired GT racing machines while the Classic RS Cup rekindles the thrill of the original 1970’s International Race of Champions (IROC) Porsche series.
In addition to weekend spectator tickets, camping is available and a great trackside way to take in all of the HSR racing action. COVID-19 social distancing rules and CDC recommended safety guidelines will be mandatory for all spectators and participants throughout the HSR Fall Historics weekend.
