Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Two to the Pasco-Hernando State College District Board of Trustees

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Rao Musunuru and Alvaro Hernandez to the Pasco-Hernando State College District Board of Trustees. 

Rao Musunuru

Musunuru, of New Port Richey, is a Physician and Cardiologist, practicing at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point and Hudson Cardiology Associates. He is the current Vice Chair of the Pasco-Hernando State College District Board of Trustees and is a past recipient of the Southern Regional Trustee Leadership Award from the National Association of Community Colleges. Musunuru earned his bachelor’s degree from Andhra Loyola College and his doctor of medicine from Guntur Medical College. 

Alvaro Hernandez

Hernandez, of Odessa, is a Market Vice President for Humana. He is a past member of the Pasco-Hernando State College District Board of Trustees and serves on the boards of the Behavioral Health Community Council, Starting Right Now Foundation and Humana’s Bold Goal Community Brain Trust. Hernandez earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international business from Nova Southeastern University. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. 

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Three to the Florida State College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Wayne Young, Andrew Shaw and Michael Bell to the Florida State College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees. 

Wayne Young

Young, of Jacksonville, is Vice President of Environmental Services for the Jacksonville Electric Authority. He served 32 years in the United States Navy, earning an honorable discharge. Young is a member of the Military Officers Association of America, American Legion, Disabled Veterans of America, Leadership Florida and Leadership Jacksonville. He earned his bachelor’s degree in management technology from the United States Naval Academy, master’s degree in telecommunications systems management from the United States Naval Postgraduate School and a master’s degree in strategic planning, policy and decision making from the United States Naval War College. 

Andrew Shaw

Shaw, of Jacksonville, is a Medical Doctor and Neurosurgeon with Lyerly Neurosurgery at Baptist Health. Previously, he practiced at Ocala Health Neurosurgery and Ohio State University Medical Center. Shaw is a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the National Association of Spine Surgeons. He completed his doctor of medicine, fellowship and residency at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. 

Michael Bell

Bell, of Fernandina Beach, is Vice President of Public Affairs at Rayonier, Inc. Previously, he served as Director of Economic Development and Manager of Corporate Relations at Rayonier, Inc. Bell is a Past President of the Florida Forestry Association and Past Chair of the Nassau County Economic Development Council. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. 

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Two to the Task Force on Closing the Achievement Gap for Boys

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Sondra Santana and Chris Schoonover to the Task Force on Closing the Achievement Gap for Boys. 
Sondra Santana
Santana, of Fleming Island, is a retired United States Navy Commander and Family Nurse Practitioner. She volunteers with the R.M. Paterson Elementary School Parent Faculty Association, the Orange Park Junior High School Advisory Council and is a member of the Rotary Club of Fleming Island and the Emergency Nurses Association. Santana earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville University, master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix, post-master’s certificate in nursing from Ball State University and her doctor of nursing practice from the University of North Florida. 
Chris Schoonover
Schoonover, of Tallahassee, is a Partner at Capital City Consulting. Previously, he was a legislative analyst with the Florida House of Representatives and a clerk with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Schoonover was Student Body President at Florida State University and served on the university Board of Trustees as well as the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida. He earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and juris doctor from Florida State University. 

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Four to the Board of Chiropractic Medicine

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Jason Comerford, Walter Melton, Anthony Oliverio and Michael Roberts to the Board of Chiropractic Medicine.  

Jason Comerford

Comerford, of Palm Bay, is a licensed chiropractic physician and owner of Sports Chiropractic Health and Rehab. He is a former company commander and combat medic with 25 years of service in the United States Army where he earned the Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Air Assault Badge. Comerford is a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association and the Florida Chiropractic Society. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida and doctor of chiropractic medicine from Palmer College of Chiropractic. 

Walter Melton

Melton, of Tallahassee, is a licensed chiropractic physician and owner of Downtown Chiropractic and Sports Development. He serves on the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Medical Review Board and is a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association and the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. Melton earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and his doctor of chiropractic medicine from the National College of Chiropractic. 

Anthony Oliverio

Oliverio, of Crystal River, is a licensed chiropractic physician at the Neck and Back Care Center with 23 years of experience. He is a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association. Oliverio earned his bachelor’s degree and doctor of chiropractic medicine from Palmer College of Chiropractic. 

Michael Roberts

Roberts, of Clearwater, is a licensed chiropractic physician at the West Bay Chiropractic Clinic. He served six years in the United States Coast Guard and earned an honorable discharge. Roberts is a Past President of the Florida Chiropractic Association and member of the Florida State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He earned his doctor of chiropractic medicine from Logan College of Chiropractic. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. 

Governor Ron DeSantis Makes ThreeJudicial Appointments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis is excited to announce three new judicial appointments to the First Circuit Court, Eighteenth Circuit Court, and the Lee County Court. 

David Oberliesen, of Niceville, to serve as Judge on the First Circuit Court 

Oberliesen has been the owner of Oberliesen Law Firm since 2015 and has served as a criminal defense attorney for the past 16 years. Previously, he served as an Assistant State Attorney for the Eighth and the Twelfth Circuits. He received his bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and law degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Oberliesen fills the judicial vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Jeff Burns.  

Christopher Sprysenski, of Sanford, to serve as Judge on the Eighteenth Circuit Court 

Sprysenski has served as private counsel for hundreds of family law, business litigation, and foreclosure cases. He has also served as Seminole County Bar Association President, Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society President, and Seminole Inns of Court President. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his law degree from Barry University School of Law. Sprysenski fills the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Debra Nelson.  

Nicole Mirra, of Fort Myers, to serve as Judge on the Lee County Court 

Mirra has served as staff counsel at Allstate Insurance since 2019. Previously, she served as an Assistant State Attorney for 13 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and law degree from Western Michigan University School of Law. Mirra fills the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge James Adams.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Katie Spear and David Rouse to the Board of Optometry. 

Katie Spear

Spear, of Pensacola, is a licensed optometrist and owner of The Visual Performance Center. She is a member of the Florida Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and is a past Co-Editor of Women in Optometry. Spear earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from Auburn University, master’s degree in public health and doctorate of optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her juris doctor from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. 

David Rouse

Rouse, of Cooper City, is a licensed optometrist and owner of Rouse Family Eye Care. He is a Past President of the Florida Optometric Association, was named the 2015 Florida Optometrist of the Year and serves as the Florida representative on the Southern Council of Optometrists. Rouse earned his bachelor’s degree in visual science and doctorate of optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
