Florida Holds The Top Spot Heading Into The Final Night Of The Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Kieran Smith successfully defends his 400IM title tonight with a time of 3:37.47 claiming the gold.

Robert Fink was a second and a half behind Smith to claim the silver medal with a time of 3:39.15 and moves up to number seven on the UF all-time best list. Kevin Vargas finished in fourth and Miguel Cancel finished in seventh in the A-final.

In the 100 fly final, Eric Friese finishes in fifth with a time of 45.65 and moves up to number five on UF all-time best list. Isaac Davis won the B-final with a time of 46.98 as he placed ninth overall.

Trey Freeman placed fourth in the 200 free and moved up to number four on the UF all-time best list with a time of 1:32.88. In the B-final Alfonso Mestre placed fourth and 12th overall with a time of 1:34.78.

Dillon Hillis claims the gold in the 100 breast and improves his number two spot on the UF all-time best list with a time of 51.22. In the C-final, Amro Al-Wir placed fourth and 20th overall in the 100 breast.

Adam Chaney adds a silver medal to his resume and moves up to number three on the UF all-time best list as he goes 45.29 in the 100 back final. Clack Beach went 46.26 to finish fifth overall.

Ethan Beach placed second in the C-final and 18th overall in the 100 back with a time of 47.51. Behind him was Trevor McGovern who placed seventh in the C-final and was 23rd overall.

The quartet of Chaney, Hillis, Fries and Smith win the gold in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:02.66. With that time,  they break the Mizzou Aquatics Center pool record move up to number one on the UF all-time best list.

What’s Next

Florida will be back in the pool on Friday morning with the final session of preliminaries.

The day will start-off at 11 a.m. ET with the 200 back, followed by the 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and the 1650 free.

The finals for the respective events and the 400 free relay will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
