Florida Drops 1-0 Decision at No. 5 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A second half Seminole goal was the difference in Sunday’s annual meeting between Florida and No. 5 Florida State.

FSU took the 1-0 win Sunday afternoon in front of 1,823 at the Seminole Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon. It was the sixth 1-0 match in the 29 meetings between the two programs, as no ties have been recorded in the series.

“I’m really excited about the heart and the competitiveness we saw here,” Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. “Disappointed obviously with the result because we didn’t come here to have a close game. We came here to win the game. I think we’ll be better as a result of this and this will help us as we go into SEC play.”

Florida’s Alexa Goldberg save in the 21st minute on a Jody Brown shot helped keep the match scoreless in the opening half.

The Seminoles took the lead in the 76th minute off a give-and-go between Brown and Beata Olsson. Near midfield, Brown played the ball to Olsson and then started a run toward goal. Olsson sent the ball back and Brown took a couple of touches before scoring from 16 yards.

For the match, FSU outshot the Gators 10-3. Today’s result was Florida’s first loss of the season, as the team enters league play 4-1-2.

Coach Samantha Bohon Said:
“I thought we did a little bit better in the first half than in the second half of having a little bit more possession. But we knew Florida State has shown a trend of really pushing in the second half and so I was happy that we bended but didn’t break in the second half.

“I would have loved for us to start with a little bit more possession but again a credit to the heart of this team that they kept fighting and it took a special play by Jody [Brown], who is a special player, to put one in the back of the net.” – Florida Soccer Head Coach Samantha Bohon
