FIU WTN News: Tennis Opens Home Slate Saturday

MIAMI (Feb. 19, 2021) – After almost a year removed from its last home match, the FIU women’s tennis team welcomes North Florida on Saturday, Feb. 20, as the Panthers and Ospreys battle it out. 

First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is set for Noon. 

HOME AGAIN
Since opening the 2021 season on Jan. 30 with a 4-3 road win over Florida Gulf Coast, the Panthers have been idle and eagerly awaiting their return to the court. FIU stormed back to defeat FGCU last month with four wins coming in singles play, highlighted by straight-set wins from Basak AkbasKristina MileticAndreea Velcea and Marina Alcaide

SCOUTING UNF
North Florida enters Saturday’s match with a 3-2 record overall, with wins over USF, Georgia Southern and Flagler and their only defeats coming to No. 7 Florida State and Auburn last weekend. The strength of UNF’s singles play has come in the 2-4 positions, with the Osprey’s holding a combined 9-4 record in those spots. In doubles, the duo of Catherine Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo has posted a 4-0 record at the No. 1 spot. 

UP NEXT
After Saturday’s home opener, the Panthers will travel to Stetson on Monday, Feb. 22. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
