FIU Travels to Marshall for Regular-Season Finale

MIAMI (Nov. 27, 2019) – After a historic win over Miami (Fla.) last week, the FIU football team will refocus and hit the road for Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 27, as the Panthers do battle with the Thundering Herd at noon.

Kickoff between the Panthers and Hurricanes is set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on CBS Sports Network. For complete game notes, click here

KINGS OF MIAMI
Last time out, FIU led UM from start-to-finish on Nov. 23, as the two schools squared off at the former site of the Orange Bowl Stadium. The Panthers jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start, before the Hurricanes finally managed to score. Anthony Jones put the game on ice late in the fourth quarter, as the running back sprinted down the sideline for a 37-yard score to put the Panthers up 30-17. After a failed onside attempt, James Morgan and the Panthers formed the victory formation to kneel down and seal the 30-24 win over the Hurricanes.

With the win, the Panthers became bowl eligible for a school-record third-straight season.

SCOUTING THE HERD
Marshall enters the game with a 7-4 record and 5-2 mark in C-USA action. Last time out, the Herd fell to Charlotte on the road, 24-13. Marshall has been very good in Huntington this season, earning a 5-1 record with their only loss coming at the hands of Cincinnati (52-14).

Brenden Knox is the leading rusher in the conference this season, earning 1,138 yards on the year and 10 touchdowns. He averages 103.5 yards per contest. The Herd also has the league’s leading tackler, with Tavante Beckett earning 106 so far this season.

WIN THE TURNOVER BATTLE, WIN THE GAME
FIU is 14-3 under head coach Butch Davis when the Panthers win the turnover battle. That record was even more evident when FIU faced Miami (Fla.) as the Panthers forced three turnovers and gave up none as the Hurricanes were downgraded, 30-24.

O-LINE LEADS C-USA IN SACKS ALLOWED
The FIU offensive line has done a great job keeping James Morgan clean this season, as the big boys up front have only allowed 13 sacks this year. The 13 sacks allowed are tied for the 10th-lowest in the nation and are tied for first overall in C-USA.

MORGAN NEARING CAREER PASSING MARK
James Morgan is only four touchdown passes shy of tying the career touchdown mark (42) at FIU set by Josh Padrick from 2003-06. Morgan has 50 touchdowns for his career, with 16 coming at Bowling Green.

BORREGALES ON ALL-TIME LISTS
Jose Borregales has been clutch at FIU since first taking the field in 2017. The junior ranks second overall for most points scored by a non-quarterback, scoring 258 points for his career.

UP NEXT
FIU will await to see if its selected to go bowling after Saturday’s contest, as the Panthers will shift focus to the postseason.
