FAU hosts Palm Beach Atlantic for home-opener Monday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball (1-1) is set to open its 2022-23 home slate on Monday as the Owls welcome the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (1-1, 0-1 SSC) on Monday, Nov. 21 for a 7 p.m. tip inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on CUSA.TV.

SCOUTING FAU
FAU is in its second year under head coach Jennifer Sullivan in 2022-23. Coach Sullivan has collected a 6-26 record throughout her two seasons in Boca Raton. The Owls enter Monday’s contest with a 1-1 record this season and are just coming off a 75-42 loss against the Miami Hurricanes.

Janeta Rozentale paces the Owls in scoring, averaging 11 points per game through the first two contests of the year, which included an 11-point, 10-rebound performance in FAU’s season-opener against Bethune-Cookman. Aniya Hubbard is averaging a team second-best 9.5 points per game and ranks second in C-USA and leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per contest. Hubbard leads the Owls with three blocks through two games, and Rozentale and Hubbard are also tied for the team-lead in assists, dishing out six assists each this season. Rozentale, Dyllan Hanna, and Joiya Maddox are tied for a team-high two steals each through two games.

SCOUTING PALM BEACH ATLANTIC
Palm Beach Atlantic enters Monday’s contest with a 1-1 record, coming off a 78-53 loss in their Sunshine State Conference opener against Florida Southern. The Sailfish are in their 5th season under head coach Manisha Redus, who has led PBA to a 21-72 record during her time in West Palm Beach.

The Sailfish are led by Alma Danielsson, Jahnae Midget, and Darria Whitley, who are averaging 12, 11.5, and 10 points each, respectively. Mariyah Fletcher leads the team shooting 77.8 percent from the field and has collected a team-leading nine rebounds per game this season. Maria Benitez-Zayas has dished out a team-high eight assists, and Midget leads the Sailfish with five steals. Danielsson, Claire Davis, and Darria Whitley are tied for the team-lead in blocks, recording two apiece through two games so far in 2022-23.

SERIES HISTORY

FAU leads the all-time series 2-0 against Palm Beach Atlantic. The Owls earned both wins at home inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, including an 88-41 win in their most recent meeting last season on Nov. 10, 2021.

UP NEXT

The Owls continue their six-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26 as they host Binghamton and Sacred Heart for their Thanksgiving Classic. The Owls tip-off at 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
