Detroit Mercy To Partner With WLQV 92.7 FM & 1500 AM FaithTalk Detroit On Men’s Basketball Radio Broadcasts

DETROIT (10/20/2020) — The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics has announced a new radio home for the Titan men’s basketball team as they will partner with WLQV 92.7 FM & 1500 AM FaithTalk Detroit.

The games will simulcast live coverage on both frequencies and will also be available on a number of different apps for fans to listen on their computers, tablets or smartphones.

“I would like to thank the Salem Media Group and WLQV for their commitment to Detroit Mercy basketball and welcome them to the Titan family,” said Detroit Mercy Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. “I believe the station will be a great home for the Titan men’s basketball team and allow our fans to tune into a first-rate broadcast throughout this season and for the future.”

“We’re thrilled at the opportunity to add University of Detroit Mercy Men’s Basketball to our expanding list of sports programming on our stations,” said Chris MacCourtney, Operations Vice-President at the Salem Media Group. “Airing Titan men’s basketball is a perfect fit for WLQV FaithTalk Detroit and the live sports option our listeners enjoy.”

The stations carry a signal of 50,000 watts and can reach over 4 million people in the state of Michigan and Canada. All games will also be streamed on faithtalkdetroit.com, iHeart Radio, TuneIn, and on the station’s mobile app, giving the proud Titan faithful and fan base an unprecedented number of ways to follow the red, white and blue.

“I think the ability for local fans to listen to the games while driving home or working around the house and spending time with friends, former teammates and alums is a great key to keeping the Titans alive in the community,” said Vowels. “Add in the chance to listen on your phone with the numerous apps the station can be followed on or to listen online on your computer was a huge factor for us to make sure we are as accessible as possible to our family, fans, alums, donors and sponsors, especially during the pandemic we are going through.”

Salem Media Group is the sixth largest broadcaster in the country – and the undisputed leader in programming focused on Christian and conservative content. It owns and operates over 100 radio stations, with 70-plus stations in the nation’s top 25 markets.

Dan Hasty will return for his third season as the voice of the men’s basketball team. A native of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and a graduate of Stevenson High School, Hasty is the play-by-play broadcaster for the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Detroit Tigers Class-A minor league baseball team. The 2017 Midwest League Broadcaster of the Year, he was honored in 2016 for his Excellence in Play-by-Play by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

The Titans just officially started practice last week and are working towards their season starting on Nov. 25. A full schedule of games against non-conference opponents and the Horizon League are still being hammered out and should be available in the near future.
