Coral Springs to use Grant Money for Improvements and to Receive some New Artwork

Coral Springs to receive some new artwork

The Coral Springs Commission approved an agreement between the City and Curious Form in the amount of $97,000 from the Public Art Fund for the fabrication, delivery and installation of the sculpture Coalescence at the Artwalk.

The City of Coral Springs recognizes that public art creates a unique sense of place and distinction, enjoyment and pride for all citizens and visitors to our community. The goal of the Public Art Program is to create a stimulating environment that reflects and enhances the City’s heritage, diversity and character through public artworks integrated in the architecture, infrastructure and landscape.

The Call required the artwork to be interactive, durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance. South Florida has a sub-tropical climate and is hot and humid with an intense sun and seasonal heavy rains. Problems with rust and fading should be avoided. Resistance to high-speed winds was required. One hundred thirty-three  submissions were submitted for the ArtWalk Interactive Call to Artists.

Out of the submissions, the PAC interviewed the top four applicants. From those interviews, the PAC shortlisted three  artists: Curious Form, DiBari & Associates, and Madeline Wiener. The shortlisted artists were paid an honorarium of $1,000 to complete a detailed design of their proposal. After presentations by the three artists and careful consideration of each piece submitted, the Committee selected the proposal by artist Curious Form.
