BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 17-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (12-11, 2-2 CUSA) battled tough against the No. 6-ranked Cal Golden Bears (15-6, 0-0 PAC-12) and the No. 2-ranked UCLA Bruins (18-4, 1-0 PAC-12) but fell in a pair of 4-1 battles to close out play in the Death Volley Invitational on Saturday at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.

Court four finished first as Florida Atlantic’s Logan Mignerey and Kate McLaughlin fell in straight sets against Cal’s Lara Boos and Jenna Colligan, 14-21, 12-21. The Golden Bears extended their lead to 2-0 on court three as Sloane Woolwine and Reese Edwards fell in a two-set battle against Cal’s Alex Young-Gomez and Marilu Pally, 12-21, 15-21. Cal clinched the dual win on court five with the Sandy Owls’ Mikayla Law-Heese and Olivia Strandberg falling in two sets against the Golden Bears’ Ella Dreibholz and Portia Sherman, 14-21, 17-21. The Sandy Owls’ 2s pair of Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova scored Florida Atlantic’s first point on court two as the pair captured a three-set battle against Cal’s Gia Fisher and Emma Donley, 21-15, 17-21, 15-13. However, Cal closed out the match with a win on court one as the Sandy Owls’ top pair of Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova fell in a three-set match against the Golden Bears’ Sierra Caffo and Kendall Peters, 17-21, 21-18, 10-15.Scores

The Bruins scored another point on court five as Olivia Strandberg and Shayna Wolf falling in a two-set battle against Ensley Alden and Natalie Myszkowski, 17-21, 24-26. UCLA clinched the match on court one as Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova fall in straight sets against the Bruins top pair of Lexy Denaburg and Maggie Boyd, 21-10, 21-13. UCLA extended their lead to 4-0 on court two with Brooklyn Goedhart and Sloane Woolwine falling 18-21, 8-21 to the Bruin’s Peri Brennan and Devon Newberry.
