Bulls Add To Signing Class With Segun Afolabi

TAMPA (Feb. 24, 2020) – University of South Florida head men’s soccer coach Bob Butehorn has announced the signing of forward Segun Afolabi (Austell, Ga.) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).

Afolabi joins Josh Gomina (Sampa, Ghana), Donovan Hesselmeyer (North Ft. Myers, Fla.), Jeffrey “JT” Copper (Tampa, Fla.) and Brian Schaefer (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), who also inked NLIs in December.

“We are very excited to add Segun to our 2020 class,” said Butehorn. “He is someone who has tremendous potential, he’s a natural goal scorer, and he will be a dynamic attacking threat for our team.”

Afolabi attends Campbell High School in Smyrna, Ga. and plays his club soccer for NASA Tophat ECNL. This season Afolabi has been dominating offensively, scoring nine goals and recording one assist while helping Campbell to a 4-0 start. He is a two-year captain and three-time scholar athlete, and was tabbed the 2019 Region Player of the Year for the Spartans after netting 20 goals for Campbell.

On the club level, Afolabi has scored 23 goals for NASA Tophat this season.

During the 2019 campaign, USF posted an 11-7-1 record that included a win over No. 5 Louisville and advanced to its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance.
