GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball heads to Gainesville on Tuesday for a late afternoon matchup against Florida. The game was originally scheduled for March 5 but was postponed due to weather.
OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls took two of three from USF over the weekend to improve to 9-9 in the American Conference.
FAU won the opener on Friday in a 3-2 pitcher’s duel. C.J. Williams allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings before handing it off to Sam Drumheller and Danny Trehey to finish it off. Christian Adams homered and Jalen DeBose scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
USF took game two 8-5 on Saturday to even the series. Adams homered again and John Schroeder reached base five times, including a solo homer in the ninth inning. The Bulls’ four-run second inning ultimately proved to be the difference.
The Owls rebounded to take the finale on Sunday 6-3. Carter Brady hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Steven Andrews pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Trey BeardDanny Trehey recorded his second six-out save of the weekend.
WHO’S HOT
On Monday, Adams was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season. In addition to his two home runs against USF, he recorded six RBI in the four-game week. In the last 10 games, the senior second baseman is hitting .375 (15-for-40).
Jalen DeBose had two RBI on Sunday. He enters Tuesday’s game with at least one hit in seven straight and 13 of his last 14.
THE OPPONENT
Florida dropped two of three to No. 2 Arkansas over the weekend. At 9-12 in league play, they sit in sixth place in the SEC East. The Gators are led offensively and on the mound by two-way player Jac Caglianone. One of the projected top picks in the 2024 MLB Draft, Caglianone is hitting .404 with 26 home runs (second in DI) and 53 RBI. As a team, UF has hit 92 home runs which ranks seventh in the country.
Sophomore lefty Cade Fisher will make his eighth start on the mound for the Gators. Fisher is 2-2 with a 6.49 ERA. In 2023, he was named by Perfect Game as a Freshman All-American. He was also recognized on the SEC’s All-Freshman Team.
OPPONENT HISTORY
The Gators won both games against the Owls last season, 18-11 and 11-0. This will be the 36th meeting all-time. UF holds a 25-10 edge. Florida Atlantic’s last win over Florida came in the 2021 Gainesville Regional.
