Children in the south Broward region received some help for getting back to school.
Broward County Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis joined the Children’s Services Council of Broward, the City of Pembroke Pines and other community partners to help hundreds of children start the new school year on the right foot during a Back-to-School Shoe and Food Giveaway.
Throughout the Saturday event, approximately 800 new pairs were distributed, giving students the confidence and comfort they need as they return to the classroom.
The event also connected families with a variety of valuable resources. More than 250 families received food, while others qualified for assistance to help purchase school uniforms. Memorial Healthcare provided on-site medical services through a mobile health unit, making healthcare resources easily accessible to participating families.
“Every child deserves to begin the school year feeling confident, prepared and ready to succeed,” said Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis. “Seeing so many families leave with not only new shoes, but also food, healthcare resources and financial assistance, is a reminder of what we can accomplish when our community comes together.”
The Back-to-School Shoe and Food Giveaway was held at the Southwest Focal Point Senior Center in Pembroke Pines. The event was made possible through the collaboration of Broward County, the Children’s Services Council of Broward, the City of Pembroke Pines, Memorial Health and numerous community organizations, volunteers and sponsors dedicated to supporting local families.
Commissioner Davis thanked the many volunteers, community partners and sponsors whose generosity helped make the event a success and reaffirmed her commitment to connecting Broward residents with resources that strengthen families and create opportunities for children to thrive.
