World Series Preview

As America’s favorite pastime reaches its final conclusion, many fans will be anxiously waiting for a new team to be crowned champion. However, fans of the Detroit Tigers will be thrilled to see five former players take the field as the 2019 MLB World Series gets underway. Players such as Aníbal Sánchez, Max Scherzer, Fernando Rodney, Justin Verlander and now former player Don Kelly all played for Detroit in their careers and went to the Fall Classic.

Unfortunately for them, none of those players were able to achieve the ultimate prize and it’s haunted them ever since. Astros pitcher, Justin Verlander said,“I felt bad for Mr. (Ilitch), he put his heart and soul into this organization, did everything he possibly could to allow us to win a championship,” Verlander said. “Came close a couple times. It’s probably one of my biggest regrets.”

Verlander, 36, won his first championship as a member of the Houston Astros in 2017. His counterpart Don Kelly still hasn’t won one and is seeking to do so as a first base coach for the Astros in 2019. As for, Aníbal Sánchez, Max Scherzer and Fernando Rodney they are still seeking their first as members of the Nationals.

Claire McNear of The Ringer stated that Max Scherzer believes they have the mojo to win he said earlier this month, and so far, he hasn’t been wrong.

Game 1 of the World Series is on Tuesday night at 8:08 PM. Nationals pitcher, Max Scherzer will square off against red hot Astros pitcher, Gerrit Cole as the two set to do battle. When asked about what he suspects Scherzer said, “I’ve been in the situation, faced really good pitchers here in the National League over the years: Clayton Kershaw, Jacob deGrom, those guys,” Scherzer said. “You just know you’ve got to come out there, you’re going to be throwing up zeros. And you’ve got to try to match the intensity from your opponent. And Cole’s had a terrific year. So obviously it’s going to be one heck of a challenge.”
