Vienna, 4 July 2019 – With the semi-finals now over and the final due
to take place this Sunday (7th July), Wettbasis (www.wettbasis.com)
found that FIFA has paid out a total of nearly of $4.16million to the
198 clubs that have players taking part in the Women’s World Cup 2019.*Broken down, the figure amounts to $453 per player per day. The
player’s current club receives 50% of the sum, while the other 50%
is given to clubs that trained the player up to the age of 22.
Gender pay gap
It’s no secret that there are vast sums to be made in men’s soccer.
Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Chelsea FC each received over
$4.5 million for taking part in the men’s World Cup 2018, more than
the amount paid by FIFA to all the women’s clubs combined for the
whole tournament.Women receive just 5.3% of what the FIFA awards
to male players at the same level. At last year’s Men’s World Cup,
FIFA paid around $8,530 per player per day, around 19 times the
amount paid to female footballers.
US league attracts the most money
The National Women’s Soccer League has so far received the highest
payout of any country- $586,000 in total. The English and French
leagues trail behind the US $334,700 and $327,000 respectively. But
there are just three American clubs among the top 20 highest
paid- Portland Thorns ($77,500), Orlando Pride ($67,000), and
North Carolina Courage ($63,000).
European leagues paid less
European clubs dominate the top 20, with FC Barcelona topping
the list. The Spanish club receives a total of $95,000 for its 15 players
taking part in the tournament. It is followed by French team
Olympique Lyon, which receives $93,000, and English team
Manchester City, which receives $85,000.The detailed results can
