Women’s Soccer – Owls and Eagles Battle to Scoreless Draw

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer traveled to take on Florida Gulf Coast Thursday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex and returned home with a tie after 110 minutes of scoreless action.

The Finish:
Each team had some good looks, with the Owls (0-2-1) having possibly their best in the 75th minute, when Emma Grissom’s on-target shot was saved. The Eagles (1-0-1) had a rocket in the waning seconds of the first overtime, but Cassidy Wasdin sprawled out to dive and bat it away.

In the second extra period, each team had one shot. Again, for FAU, it was Grissom and it was again saved; the Eagles’ lone attempt sailed out high.

Notables:
Wasdin drew her first start of the year, and had four saves against 13 FGCU attempts
Also seeing her first action in 2021 was defender Luisa Daikeler, who played all but about the final 1:30 of the first period
Logging all 110 minutes, in addition to Wasdin, were midfielders Grissom and Gi Krstec, and defenders Hunter KoziaraHailey Landrus and Amber TamGrissom and Sammy Vitols combined for half of the Owls’ eight shots, with two apiece, and all three of the team’s shots on goal (both of Grissom’s, and one of Vitols’)

Quotable
“It was a great game,” said head coach Patrick Baker of tonight’s matchup. “Coming here to Florida Gulf Coast is never an easy venue to play at, plus you’re matched up against a really good team in Florida Gulf Coast … I liked how we competed, I like how we fought, I thought it was a fairly even game. They had their chances, we had our chances. Probably at the end of 110 minutes, a tie was a fair result.”
