Women’s Golf Re-Writes Record Book in 2022-23

Bulls’ season highlighted by first NCAA Regional appearance since 2012

TAMPA, FLA., May 26, 2023 – The USF women’s golf team, en route to their first NCAA Regional appearance in 11 years, set multiple program records along the way. In a true team effort, each player had a hand in re-writing the records with multiple players posting career-best seasons.

The new additions to the record book:

  • No. 26 NCAA Team Scoring Average Ranking
  • No. 53 Golfstat National Ranking (5/18/2023)
  • 15 Team Rounds of Par or Better (vs. 7 in ’21-’22)
  • 70 Player Rounds of Par or Better (vs. 47 in ’21-’22)
  • 290.54 Team Scoring Average
  • 4 Top 3 Team Finishes
  • 7 Top 5 Team Finishes
  • 290.54 Scoring Average
  • 35 Par or Better Rounds
  • 478 Birdies
  • 3.11 Par 3 Scoring
  • 4.14 Par 4 Scoring
  • 4.96 Par 4 Scoring
  • 273 Low Round (Evie Odom Invitational)
  • -11 Low Round to Par (FAU Paradise Invitational)

Leading the charge for the Bulls was junior Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.), who ranked No. 12 in the country in scoring average (71.03) and was the 39th-ranked player in the country overall according to Golfstat. Green earned her third American Athletic All-Conference honor and led the Bulls with eight top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 finishes.  Green made her second-consecutive NCAA appearance after qualifying for the NCAA Regional as an individual in 2022 and finishing tied for 27th.
 
Graduate student Lauren Heinlein (Ocala) recorded the Bulls’ second-best scoring average of 73.37, posted three Top 10 finishes and six Top 25 finishes. Heinlein was second on the team with 15 rounds of par or better and six rounds in the 60’s. She led the Bulls with 35 pars in the NCAA Regional.

Sophomore Juliana Camargo (Bogata, Columbia) had her best season as a Bull, with a scoring average of 73.94, third highest on the team. Camargo posted three Top 10 finishes with a season-high fourth place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
 
Sophomore Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) recorded her best season at USF with a scoring average of 74.00. Medeiros posted her first Top 10 finish in leading the Bulls to a fourth-place finish at the Chattanooga Classic and recorded five Top 25 finishes. In the second round of the NCAA Regional, Medeiros posted the lowest round in the field, firing a three-under 69 and was the only player to shoot in the 60’s.

In her first season as a Bull, Junior transfer Alizee Vidal (Le Gosier, France) carded 13 rounds of par or better and three rounds in the 60’s. Vidal also posted two Top 10 finishes, one of them a season-best tie for second at the Hurricane Invitational.

The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Junior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first two seasons, reached the 2022 NCAA Regionals as an individual and competed in both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships.
