Women’s Golf Coach Erika Brennan Receives Contract Extension

Following the Bulls’ record-breaking season, highlighted by first NCAA Regional appearance since 2012, Brennan receives extension through the 2025-26 season 

TAMPA, FLA., June 20, 2023 – University of South Florida Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly has announced a contract extension for Women’s Golf Head Coach Erika Brennan on the heels of the Bulls’ record-breaking 2022-23 season. Brennan, who just completed her sixth season as the Bulls’ head coach, received an extension through the 2025-26 season. 

“Coach Brennan has built the women’s golf program into one of the best in the conference as they continue to set program records, perform at a very high level in the classroom, and, this past year earned the program’s first NCAA Regional invitation since 2012,” said Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly. “We are excited to extend Coach Brennan’s leadership of USF women’s golf through at least the 2025-26 season and look forward to cheering on their continued achievement.” 

In 2022-23, the USF women’s golf team earned their first NCAA Regional appearance in 11 years, posting nine Top 10 finishes and setting multiple program records along the way.

Leading the Bulls in the 2022-23 campaign, junior Melanie Green earned All-AAC honors for the third straight season and was named to Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) 2022-23 Division I All-American Honorable Mention Team. 

 Three members of the team earned academic honors in 2022-23. Juliana Camargo, Lauren Heinlein, and Leonor Medeiros were named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators. To be eligible for the honor, players must have a 3.50 GPA or higher and play in 50 percent or more of the team’s contests. 

In Brennan’s first six seasons, the Bulls have captured three tournament titles and have finished in the top half of the AAC Tournament three of the last four years, including a fifth-place finish in 2022-23.  

Brennan’s teams have recorded the top three season scoring averages in program history with 290.54 in 2022-23, 293.43 in 2018-19 and 294.32 in 2021-22. Her teams have also been recognized by the WGCA for a cumulative GPA that ranks among the top 25 best among women’s golf teams in the country while leading her team to perfect Academic Progress Rate scores every season. 

 A native of Lake Wales, Florida, Brennan joined USF following stints as the head coach at Southern Miss and St. Leo University. 

Brennan played golf at Western Carolina, finishing her career ranked in the top 20 in the Southern Conference and she ranks ninth all-time at WCU in career scoring average.  

She graduated from Western Carolina in 2006 with a degree in sport management. She also has a master’s degree in management from Warner University and is pursuing a master’s degree in human capital development from Southern Mississippi.

The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Junior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first three seasons, reached the 2022 NCAA Regionals as an individual and competed in both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships.
