Week No. 2 and GS Prep Begins

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University Owls have completed their recovery, their NCAA mandatory day off, and began the work by returning to the Schmidt Family Center practice fields on Tuesday morning.

COORDINATOR’S CORNER

Offensive Coordinator/QB Michael Johnson
Opening review and preview:
“Offensively, I thought we did some good things. Bottom line, we didn’t win so it wasn’t good enough. I thought the effort was good. We moved the ball at times effectively. I was impressed with the way our offensive line played, in the physical nature that they played with. I thought we were able to run the ball against those guys, which is encouraging. We just had a couple of little mistakes here and there that halted our drives. We didn’t score as many points as I thought we should have, then scored a couple of touchdowns late in the game. I felt that there were some encouraging things that happened in that game. We have to take those positives and move forward.

“Going into this week’s game, I think it is a game that is going to be challenging. Georgia Southern is a team that we respect. They are a well-coached, physical football team. We will have to match that physicality. I think that it is about us, executing the things that we need to do to become a more efficient offense. Those are the things we will stress this week and make sure that we get those small details ironed out and make sure we are doing the things necessary to score more points on offense. We are close. I was encouraged with a lot of the things that happened in that game [UF].”

PLAYERS’ TAKE

Wide Receiver D’Marcus Adams
On his transition from cornerback to receiver:
“It wasn’t as bad as everyone thought it would be. I still had to memorize the plays and that was a big part of the game. The game plan for me, they gave me a specific amount of plays for me to learn and utilize in the game. I really appreciate the O-linemen for giving N’Kosi [Perry] enough time for him to pass. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to do the plays that I was able to do.”

Did practicing at corner give you a different perspective?
“Honestly, it did. It brought in my defensive standpoint and gave me better knowledge so that when I’m at receiver, I know exactly where the soft spots and cushions are and just helped overall.”

Wide Receiver Brandon Robinson
On the Florida game and their upcoming opponent:
“The plan going into Florida was – play our game. Do as best as we can and of course try to get the “W,” but do what we can…We did as best as we could with our game plan and now need to eliminate our mistakes.

“Going into this week, there was a lot to learn, we will watch film, correct mistakes and make sure we get the job done.”
